WHAT IS YOUR VIEW ON THE POST GRADUATE LEARNING COMMONS (PGLC)

The Postgraduate Learning Commons, which was opened earlier this year, is situated on the first floor of the Main Library. The facilities and services include a computer laboratory, conference room, group seminar rooms, comfortable lounge seating and laptops on loan for use in PGLC. Postgraduates may access the Commons for 12 hours per session via swipe cards, which are available from the Main Library’s Reference desk.
You may contact: verna.george@uwimona.edu.jm (Coordinating librarian) or email pglc.library@uwimona.edu.jm for further information.

  7. I love the place however, the swipe card system is quite cumbersome. There is a long wait to get the cards as you go in and this is very inconvienient, plus having to give it back. Why not just put the entry on our cards, This may not be possible for this semester but should definitely be instituted for next semester. The time limit is also unnecessary as the labs and spaces are never full and so there doesnt need to be any restrictions, I love the place, just make it easier to access. Make it seamless. Why is it that everything UWI does requires a process? Just go simple. Ok?

  8. It's great. All that's missing is a bathroom and a water cooler

  9. That is the direction UWI should be going in...keep moving forward. Wonderful and Needed initiative. Wish there were more study tables and less sofas though...Oh !The temptation to get all snugly with your books.!!!

  10. The new postgraduate commons is a very comfortable place to study. However, the swipe card access system is rather inconvenient. Would it be possible to configure the door so that postgraduate students could use their ID cards to enter, instead of the system that is in place now? Also, I noticed a table in the middle of the room that is too low for anyone to sit at. I do not know the purpose of this table, but I think maybe it should be replaced with something more useful to studying students.

  11. This is an excellent idea!!!! It would have been nice however, to have rest room facility and maybe a water cooler, to prevent the long trek downstairs. The venture is well appreciated though.
